Carlo Meloni's biographical info


Carlo Meloni was graduated in Electronics Engineering from the Sapienza University of Rome in 1997. He received a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the same university in 2000. In November 2000 he joined Roma Tre University (Rome) as post-doctoral fellow in Operations Research.
In July 2002 he became Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari, joining the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering - DEI.  
In the years 2019-2021 he was an associate professor of Operations Research in the same department.
Since November 2021, he is with Sapienza University of Rome as associate professor of Operations Research in the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering "A. Ruberti" (DIAG).
He took part in research projects promoted by public institutions, academic organizations and companies. His main research and professional interests concern applications of optimization and other OR/MS methodologies. His works have been presented in several international conferences and published on different international journals and books.
Carlo Meloni is member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Operations Research (AIRO). He is member of INFORMS international society, and took part in different EURO's working groups. He is included as expert in the Register of the Reviewers of the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research for the evaluation of research programs, and has been invited as reviewer and evaluator of international scientific and editorial projects.
Carlo Meloni is a registered professional engineer in Italy and he has served as a consultant to different companies and organizations.

  • Graduated in Electronics Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome (1997). Advisors Prof. F. Nicolò, and Prof. A. Agnetis. Thesis: Routing and scheduling in a supervised Job Shop: algorithms and simulation.
  • Ph. D. in Operations Research, Sapienza University of Rome (2000). Advisor Prof. A. Agnetis. Thesis: Combinatorial models for coordination problems in multi-stage production systems.
  • Post-doctoral fellow, Roma Tre University  (2000-2002). Supervisor: Prof. F. Nicolò. Research theme: Control methods for complex systems in industrial automation.
